
Getting Low-E Glass Preheating Right (Even at 3+ Meters)
If you’re working with wide-format Low-E glass, you know the struggle. You need the heat to be perfectly even across the whole sheet. But once you go past the 3-meter mark, standard lamps usually start to fail you. You end up with cold spots, and that’s where the trouble starts. That’s why we build custom twin-tube infrared units. They’re made for the heavy lifting of large-scale ovens. The struggle with scale You can’t just “stretch” a quartz tube and call it a day. When you’re dealing with 3+ meters, physics gets in the way. You’ve got voltage drops and thermal expansion to worry about. If the power isn’t balanced perfectly across those twin tubes, the heat isn’t consistent. And when the heat isn’t consistent, the glass bows or the Low-E coating develops stress fractures. Nobody wants to see that happen halfway through a run. We spend a lot of time dialing in the wattage and voltage so the heat feels the same at the very last centimeter as it does at the first. Why twin tubes? Here’s the trick: the twin-tube setup gives you double the emitting surface without taking up any more room in your heating zone. We use high-purity quartz because it can take a punch—specifically the kind of thermal shock these systems face. Depending on how your power grid is set up, we can wire these in parallel or series. The result? A much stronger IR flux per meter, which means your preheating happens a lot faster. The real-world stuff These lamps fit right into older, clunky systems, but they aren’t “set it and forget it.” They put out a massive amount of energy, which means you need a solid cooling plan. If your reflectors are off, the ends of the lamps will take a beating. You’ve got to make sure your cooling blowers are actually up to the task, or you’ll find your connectors burning out. One last tip: use high-temp wiring and get those mounting brackets tight. You don’t want your tubes sagging over time. It’s a small detail, but it’s the difference between a system that lasts and one that becomes a headache.
