But it’s not just about the physical fit. It’s about the heat. By shortening a tube but keeping the wattage high, we can concentrate the heat right where the glass needs to soften. This lets you shrink the whole heating zone without losing power. The trade-offs you should know about Now, there is a catch. When you shrink a lamp but keep the heat high, that filament is going to run a lot hotter. You get a massive punch of heat flux, but it puts more stress on the quartz. Because of that, you’ve got to keep an eye on your cooling. Make sure your ventilation can handle the extra ambient heat around the housing, otherwise, you’re looking at burnt-out connectors.
